Traffic Light Protocol (TLP)


Information will be classified using the Traffic Light Protocol (TLP), defined as:

TLP:RED = Users shall designate information as TLP:RED when the information is particularly sensitive and disclosure could lead to impacts on a party’s privacy, reputation, or operations if misused. Recipients of the information may not share or discuss TLP:RED information with anyone beyond those identified by the contributor of the information.

TLP:AMBER = Users shall designate information as TLP:AMBER when the information is somewhat sensitive and carries risks to privacy, reputation, or operations is shared broadly. Recipients may only share or discuss TLP:AMBER information with their employees or agents who have a need to know.

TLP:AMBER+STRICT = Recipients may only share or discuss TLP:AMBER information with their employees who have a need to know.

TLP:GREEN = Users shall designate information as TLP:GREEN when the information is useful for the awareness of all participating subscribers. Information in this category can be circulated widely within the subscriber organizations.

TLP:CLEAR = Users shall designate information as TLP:CLEAR when the information carries minimal or no foreseeable risk of misuse, in accordance with generally accepted rules and procedures for public release. Subject to standard copyright rules, TLP:CLEAR information may be distributed without restriction.
