Every year, Canadians lose billions of dollars to scams. Scammers don’t just steal money – they destroy trust and often fund organized crime. The Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition is taking a stand. By sharing intelligence, coordinating solutions, raising awareness, and giving Canadians the tools and tactics they need to identify and avoid scams, we are working to stop scammers in their tracks. Together, we can spot scams earlier, shut them down faster, and make it harder for criminals to profit from deception.
Why the Coalition Exists
The Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition has dozens of members – including financial services companies, telecoms, and technology firms, along with experts from government and law enforcement agencies. It’s a collaborative, not-for-profit effort supported by members.
Sharing intelligence will help to identify and shut down scams earlier – and ensure more criminals are held to account.
The Coalition provides clear, simple, and consistent advice that cuts through confusion and empowers Canadians to be cautious and vigilant when something feels suspicious.
Money stolen through scams is often used to support organized criminal enterprises. By fighting back against scammers, the Coalition can help to cut off this flow of funds.
As technology evolves – increasing the threat posed by deepfakes and AI-powered phishing – the Coalition is committed to staying a step ahead, helping Canadians recognize and avoid new forms of deception.
The real cost of scams isn’t only financial. Victims often experience shame, anxiety, and a lasting loss of confidence. By reducing successful scams, we protect not only savings and assets but also people’s sense of safety and trust.
How to Protect Yourself
Scammers thrive on urgency and emotion. When something doesn’t feel right, follow these three important steps:
Take a breath. Ask yourself, could this be a scam?
Look closer. Verify contact information. Ask someone you trust.
Share what happened. Talking about scams makes it harder for scammers to succeed.
Stay alert for signs that something might be a scam:
You’re not alone – and it’s not your fault. Scammers are skilled at manipulating trust and emotion.
